Louis Paul Grenier

Date de naissance : 18 septembre 1947

Date de décès : 16 décembre 2015

On December 16th, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer, Louis Paul Grenier, age 68, died peacefully at Hotel Dieu hospital in Old Quebec with his dearest two daughters and bourgeoise by his side. Louis Paul was born September 28, 1947, in Quebec, Quebec, the son of Phillippe Grenier and Monique Poliquin. He graduated from Laval University in 1971 with a degree in Forestry Engineering. With a passion for the outdoors and a desire for change, he was also a very early entrepreneur. He married his loving and free-spirited long-time childhood friend and co-conspirator, Diane Goulet on 16 July, 1972. In their early years of marriage, they tested their resilience and love for the greater province of Quebec by living in Gaspe and driving a Full size Bronco truck. Louis Paul was a provider, a visionary and man with exceptional technical abilities well advanced of his peers in a time of growing technologies, environmental shifts and national adversity. He will be remembered most for his unwavering commitment to his immediate and extended family. Calm, meticulous and calculated in his approach to his personal and professional life, his journey through life took many side roads but his love of living, food, culture and his own heritage as a native French Canadian defined his persona. Louis Paul was an educator and artistic in a way which defines modern arts. To put it in terms his grandchildren would understand, Louis Paul was a “tinker”; nothing was ever broken so badly that it couldn’t be fixed with a little glue, welding or ingenuity. A man of exceptional virtue, generosity and resourcefulness, Louis Paul was a guiding light, father, friend and mentor to a very broad cast of characters in his almost seven decades of living. His intuition and intelligent demeanour are hard to articulate but his influence grows forever in his two beautiful daughters and his grandchildren who will forever be his legacy. Louis Paul was an extremely proud and traditional human being. Uniquely gifted, his love of fishing, new technology, cars, movies, fine scotch and wine and food live on in those he met, those he cared for and those that surround him in memory. He is survived by his mother, Monique Poliquin, his wife and life-long partner, Diane (nee Goulet) Grenier, Quebec, Qc and his loving siblings, Gilles Grenier, Charlesbourg, Qc; Francois Grenier, Charlesbourg, Qc. and Ginette St-Pierre (Gilles), Rimouski, Qc. He is also survived by his two children, Marie-Chantal Grenier (Christian), Collingwood, On and Dominque Grenier (Louis), Charlesbourg, Qc. Louis Paul (known famously as Grandpapa) will forever be remembered by his beautiful grandchildren, Emilie, Mathis, Noemie and Alexia Lillington- Collingwood, ON and Phillipe and Charles La Rue- Charlesbourg, Qc. Lost but never forgotten.
